Emmy likes: The collegiate-themed box, including a frat bro and bona fide Bark University "acceptance letter," was *adorable*. (Or should I say...adogable? No, I shouldn't. I'm sorry.) Tico doesn't discriminate when it comes to treats (we're talking about a dog who ate a slimy days-old banana lying in the dirt the other day), and he loved them all equally — but it's great that you can customize the box to accommodate any allergies your pup has. Oh, and you can join its "extra toy club" and receive an additional toy in your box for an extra $9. Starting at $21/month, Barkbox is also the most affordable subscription we tried.
I had a terrible experience with barkbox. My dog is not a strong chewer at all (he's a shih tzu) but somehow every time we got a box the toys were super cheap and would fall apart immediately. I was actually thinking of quitting the subscription but I liked the surprises each month so I thought I'd stick it out a few months. He had never destroyed any toys until we started getting barkbox toys, so after a couple deliveries - I knew they were cheaper than average. They'd basically fall apart in 2 min of him playing with them which sucked.On our last barkbox, one toy actually fell apart immediately when he was chewing on the new toy for the first time (literally within a minute of me giving it to him) he accidentally swallowed the squeaker and ended up having a $5000+ surgery as a result to get it out. He had to be completely cut open. Between the emotional pain of my dog having surgery, being in the ICU, having a pain med patch stapled to his back and weeks of recovery, I never trusted this company again. I wish I had never tried them.Suffice to say, not a fan and I tell anyone considering trying them this story. I'd rather pick my own treats and toys and be able to know what i'm getting quality wise. Be careful if you subscribe, big breeds might be ok but I'm sure small breeds regularly have this happen to them with this company.
I have been using BarkBox for over a year now. And even as I write this and was speaking aloud my dog sat straight up and looked at me when he heard the words BarkBox! It has become a phrase in my house to get the pups to come or do as I say by simply saying those two wonderful words BARKBOX! I have two dachshunds that absolutely love their toys every month, and have even learned when each month to start expecting them and literally watching out the window! But my babies aren't the only ones in love with this company... Over the past year I have found the BarkBox employees to be by far the most kind caring and helpful of any company I have ever dealt with. I have never done one of these reviews before but I created an account for just this company. Greatness like this should be acknowledged!
Subscriptions seem to be on autorenew. Right now, I pay for a year at a time. I can't remember if there is an option to pay for a month at a time or not. I am thinking not. Subscribers set up an account and from there, you can cancel if you desire. That option appears to be easy to figure out and not hidden like some autoship companies. The one thing I did not like is not getting a notification of when it was time for my yearly subscription rate being charged to my credit card. It's possible there was an e-mail but if there was, I didn't see it. I realize it is my responsibility to keep track of that. I do not know if it is possible to cancel mid-subscription if, heaven forbid, something would happen to my dog. I have to think it's possible as getting a new BarkBox could be painful shortly after losing a pet.

I ordered my first box a month ago. They refunded me and promised 4 free boxes....however....I have been told they moved their warehouse and things didn't go well. Then they said my box was built and ready to go...but it hasn't. The cute stuff they say only makes me angrier. I am not a child and it is unacceptable to not provide results. I am out to find another service for my dog...cause this one stinks

Moxie still has all the toys I got her when I brought her home.  While she likes to carry them around, she doesn’t get destructive with them, so they last.  Getting new toys every month would just be overkill!  I’m envisioning piles and piles of toys.  I don’t really see any other Barkbox reviews pointing this out, so I don’t think it is overkill if your dog tends to tear up the toys eventually.
While many of these toys will keep your pup busy on his own, you still want to spend plenty of quality time with your furry friend, and we have just the selection of rope toys and balls you can play with together. For example, our Multipet Nuts for Knots is the best of both worlds – a ball made out of rope with a handle for tug of war. You can play until your arm gets tired, because it’s doubtful your pup is going to give up first! If your dog loves to play fetch, we have everything from tennis balls to indestructible balls that glow-in-the-dark. We even have ball launchers that will send the ball hurling in the air, causing him to run even farther – perfect for the dog park or anywhere your dog has plenty of room to run.
I was very, very impressed with what was inside. I’ll admit that their prices look a tad more expensive than other boxes but shipping is included, there were a healthy number of products in the box, the products inside were definitely in the high-average category, and every one of the products in the box – both treats AND toys – are made in the USA.

Unfortunately I had to cancel my bark box subscription. I have huge dogs, aggressive chewers. Each month they send a toy, a stuffed toy. Which lasts all of 15 minutes with my dogs… I contacted Bark box month after month requesting non stuffed toys. Each BarkBox surprise is sent on the 15th of each month, and most consumers have reported that they’ve received their packages quickly and without delays. I've always wanted to try a subscription for my pups but I'm a bit ashamed that this was my first experience. BarkBox was good but had major hits and misses. I have giant, playful, strong dogs and though this was indicated, I don't feel as though any size consideration is evaluated when selecting toys for the boxes. I do like that they always came with two toys because it meant each dog had 15 minutes of play time before I had to wrestle their jaws open to dig out the stuffing and bits of squeakers they were about to ingest. The treats have been great! They especially loved the apple cider treats that started to ferment when left in a cookie jar and made all their other treats reek of beer. As a consumer that willingly signed up for the box and entered my debit card information freely, I should have read more in-depth. I did not know that when you terminate your subscription that you will continue to be charged until you reach the year mark of signing up. For me it meant 9 more months of money that was to be taken out of my account had I not caught it. I like true month to month boxes where a cancellation is immediate and I wish they had made their rather off-kilter ways of charging and processing more visible. I can think of some major changes that they could make but ultimately some of the blame rests on me for not reading better. I know my pups will be sad as they've grown accustomed to their box but I can buy more durable and healthy big dog treats for just a little more money and I know it would be more worth it.
In the determination of the quality of a dog monthly subscription boxes, the value of what you get is a very vital factor to consider. I'm actually pretty sure that BarkBox charged me for a box that I haven't received...oh my, the thought of trying to get that refunded makes me sigh. I've tried the cute route, I might need to be a little more adult about this communication. For my pups, I'm going to try another toy delivery service, or simply buy toys through Chewy or hey, even the local pet supply store! Novel idea! Support local businesses!

They have 3 options. Regular, heavy chewer, which they upgrade you for free, but I recommend super chewer box. You pay an extra $9 or so per box, but they come backed with a 14 day guarantee. My two large GSDs have not chewed through a single toy from the first box we tried, in December. Worth looking into! They were also very responsive to me on the online chat, during their business hours. One chew they went through in minutes, not a toy, but a chew, and because I pay extra I was frustrated. I got an immediate reply from their online chat option, and they offered to send TWO replacement chews. Such great options! I also recommend you trying bullymake, and my favorite is DapperDog, which I was disappointed that it wasn’t even mentioned in this article. Worth looking into!

Based out of New York, New York, BarkBox is a subscription-based online service where members receive monthly surprises for their dogs, consisting of all-natural treats, hygiene products, and toys. The service is for dogs of all sizes, including puppies, medium-sized adults, or even large breeds such as Great Danes. As such, BarkBox carefully crafts each of your monthly boxes to your specific dog’s size—and because you never know what you’re going to get, each of the 4-6 items you receive will always be a surprise.
The first BarkPark is scheduled to open on September 8 in Nashville, Tenn. It will be open daily between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. through November.
